Clenil Modulite and Atimos Modulite inhaler discontinuations notified

25 August 2026

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) issued two Tier 2, medium impact Medicine Supply Notifications on 25 August 2026. MSN/2026/038 covers beclometasone dipropionate (Clenil Modulite) 50 micrograms/dose and 250 micrograms/dose inhalers. MSN/2026/039 covers formoterol fumarate dihydrate (Atimos Modulite) 12 micrograms/dose inhaler.

What the notifications say

Community Pharmacy England (CPE) reports that both products are being discontinued at the end of November 2026. Neither page gives a resupply date. Both direct readers to the SPS Medicines Supply Tool, which details any changes to dates and entries and needs an NHS email address to access. Copies were sent to all pharmacy NHS email addresses.

For beclometasone, the notification lists as remaining available Soprobec 50 and 250 micrograms/dose inhalers, the Clenil Modulite 100 micrograms/dose inhaler, and the CFC-free pressurised metered dose inhalers Qvar and Kelhale.

For formoterol, it says NICE-recommended combination inhalers remain available and can support increased demand, as do Oxis 12 Turbohaler and Formoterol Easyhaler. It lists Soltel 25 micrograms/dose and Serevent 25 micrograms/dose CFC-free inhalers as available, and states that Serevent cannot support increased demand.

Both notifications ask pharmacies to report any new shortage not listed on the SPS website through the CPE shortage reporting tool.

A discontinuation, not a short gap

These two entries differ from most Tier 2 notices because the end point is a discontinuation date, with no return to stock to wait for. The notices give about three months' warning, which is roughly three monthly repeat cycles. Patients on the affected strengths will need moving before the end of November, and pharmacies will see that in repeat requests through the autumn.

The 100 micrograms/dose Clenil Modulite inhaler is not part of the discontinuation and is named in the beclometasone notice as remaining available.

The notifications are on CPE's pages for Clenil Modulite and Atimos Modulite.
