Venlafaxine 75mg immediate-release tablets out of stock until November
26 August 2026
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) issued Medicine Supply Notification MSN/2026/040 on 26 August 2026 for venlafaxine 75mg immediate-release (IR) tablets. It is classed as Tier 2, medium impact.
What the notification says
Community Pharmacy England (CPE) reports that the notification states venlafaxine 75mg IR tablets are out of stock until November 2026. It gives no more specific date. It directs readers to the SPS Medicines Supply Tool, which shows any changes to resupply dates and needs an NHS email address to access. A copy was sent to all pharmacy NHS email addresses.
The notification sorts the other venlafaxine presentations by how much extra demand each can support. It says venlafaxine 150mg modified-release (MR) capsules remain available and can support increased demand. It says venlafaxine 37.5mg and 75mg MR capsules and venlafaxine 75mg MR tablets can support a partial uplift in demand.
The remaining presentations are listed as available but unable to support an uplift. These are 37.5mg IR tablets, 37.5mg, 150mg, 225mg and 300mg MR tablets, 225mg and 300mg MR capsules, and the 37.5mg/5ml and 75mg/5ml oral solutions.
Pharmacies are asked to report any new shortage not listed on the SPS website through the CPE shortage reporting tool.
Reading the list
November 2026 is two to three months out. Venlafaxine comes in more than a dozen presentations and only the 75mg IR tablet is short, but the notification is clear that most of the others cannot take much extra demand. Only one, the 150mg MR capsule, is listed as able to support increased demand in full. That makes a run on the neighbouring presentations the thing to watch while the 75mg IR tablet is out. Changes to any of these positions are recorded on the Medicines Supply Tool.
The notification is on the CPE page for venlafaxine 75mg IR tablets.
