Edoxaban 15mg and methylprednisolone 100mg tablets notified out of stock

1 September 2026

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) issued two Tier 2, medium impact Medicine Supply Notifications on 1 September 2026. MSN/2026/042 covers edoxaban (Lixiana) 15mg tablets. MSN/2026/041 covers methylprednisolone (Medrone) 100mg tablets.

Edoxaban (Lixiana) 15mg tablets

Community Pharmacy England (CPE) reports that the notification says the tablets are out of stock until mid-September 2026. It says alternative direct-acting oral anticoagulants remain available and can support increased demand. It also says unlicensed edoxaban 15mg can be sourced from specialist importers, with lead times that vary, and names six companies on the page.

Methylprednisolone (Medrone) 100mg tablets

The notification says the tablets are out of stock, with a resupply date of the week commencing 5 October 2026. It says methylprednisolone 500mg and 1000mg powder for solution for injection remain available and can support increased demand. It reports that unlicensed imports of the 100mg tablets have been sourced, with lead times that vary, and lists eight specialist importers that have confirmed they can supply.

Unlicensed products and prescriptions

Both notifications set out the same route for imported product. If there is no dm+d listing, an EPS prescription cannot be issued, so an FP10 paper prescription is needed, marked as a special for the named product. The notifications advise that the pharmacy endorse it as a non-Part VIII special, recording the amount dispensed, the invoice price less any discount, the importer's MHRA licence number and the batch number, along with other details the notifications list. Both link to CPE guidance on writing prescriptions for unlicensed specials.

Both direct pharmacies to the SPS Medicines Supply Tool, which records changes to resupply dates and needs an NHS email address, and ask for new shortages not listed there to be reported through the CPE shortage reporting tool.

The two dates

The edoxaban date is a month, and the methylprednisolone date is a week. Neither is a guarantee, and both notifications refer teams to the Medicines Supply Tool for changes. The two notices were issued the same day but are separate entries with separate references.

The notifications are on CPE's pages for edoxaban 15mg tablets and methylprednisolone 100mg tablets.
