Levothyroxine tablets and five injectables added to the export restriction list

1 October 2026

GOV.UK updated the list of medicines that cannot be exported from the UK or hoarded on 29 September 2026, adding six products. The Department of Health and Social Care and the MHRA publish the list, and the CSV gives 30 September 2026 as the date of restriction for all six.

Levothyroxine tablets

The levothyroxine entry covers tablets in all strengths. GOV.UK's update text and the CSV both spell it "Levothryroxine", so a search of the list for the correct spelling will miss it. It is the only one of the six in tablet form, and the only one most community pharmacies dispense every day.

The page entry is dated 29 September and the restriction date is the next day, the same one-day gap seen with the ramipril and raltitrexed additions.

The other five additions

Five injectable or infusion products were added in the same update, each with strength all. They are cytarabine solution for injection vials, idarubicin solution for injection vials, mesna solution for injection ampoules, pentostatin powder for solution for injection vials and topotecan solution for infusion vials.

What the restriction covers

GOV.UK states that hoarding or exporting a listed medicine is a breach of regulation 43(2) of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012 and a contravention of the wholesale dealer licence. It adds that this may lead to regulatory action by the MHRA, which could include immediate suspension of the licence. Our explainer on the list sets out how it works and who maintains it.

An entry on the list is not a shortage notice. The update text does not state that any of the six products is in short supply.

The list and its CSV are on the GOV.UK publication page.
