MOVICOL Plain 13.7g powder: Class 3 recall of two batches

5 October 2026

The MHRA issued a Class 3 Medicines Recall on 5 October 2026 for two batches of MOVICOL Plain 13.7g powder for oral solution, made by Norgine Limited. The notice is reference EL(26)A/41 and the Defective Medicines Report Centre reference is 40129134.

The batches

The notice names the product under PL 20142/0004 and lists two batches, both in packs of 30.

Batch 487069 has an expiry date of 28 February 2029 and was first distributed on 5 June 2026. Batch 474919 has an expiry date of 31 August 2028 and was first distributed on 7 November 2025.

Norgine is recalling both batches "as a precautionary measure due to some units containing the incorrect amounts of active ingredients".

What the notice asks

The notice is headed "Action within 5 days" and is marked for distribution at wholesaler, pharmacy and retail level. For healthcare professionals the notice advises "Stop supplying the above batch immediately. Quarantine all remaining stock and return it to your supplier using your supplier's approved process".

For patients, the notice says no further action is required because the recall is being carried out at retail and wholesaler levels. It adds that patients holding the batch may continue to take the medicine, and that anyone with adverse reactions or questions should seek medical attention. Suspected adverse reactions can be reported through the Yellow Card scheme.

Norgine's medical information and stock control contacts are on the notice.

Reading the class

The MHRA's classification table describes a Class 3 recall as one where the defect is unlikely to cause harm and the recall is carried out for other reasons, such as non-compliance with the marketing authorisation or specification. Our note on the clobazam oral suspension notice sets out all four classes.

At the dispensary

Teams should check shelf stock against both batch numbers and expiry dates. The notice covers the 13.7g powder only, and names no other MOVICOL presentation.
